Large White Horse Oil Painting, Draw Near
Sharing a series of condensed painting sessions of a recent large equine oil painting of mine. I thought you might like to see my process. My art has been described to me as gestural, expressive, vibrant. As you will see I do the drawing directly on the canvas in paint or sometimes charcoal or chalk. In this first clip, I have toned the canvas with a background color and am using a rag and a paint brush to lighten up the large areas of the horse's body to get the general proportions. I go from there to put in lights and darks and refine the drawing/painting. This is really my preferred way to paint because I like the energy and freshness of the painting when I work this way. See what you think.
